Starting out

Starting in private practice? We’ll get your billing set up.

When you start in private practice, there’s a lot to set up before you can bill. We do it for you, then look after every invoice from your first one.

What we do for you

We register you with the insurers and set you up with your hospitals.

We register you with Vhi, Laya Healthcare, Irish Life Health and Level Health, and with the other insurers you’ll need, such as Garda Medical Aid. We set up billing with each private hospital you’ll work in, so your invoices go in with the insurance claims from the start. Then your own account manager takes it from there.

Step by step

Six steps to your first invoice.

01

We come to see you

Wherever you work. We’ll talk through your practice and what you’ll need, and there’s nothing to sign at this stage.

02

You send us your details

Your Medical Council number, your PPS number, the hospitals you’ll work in, and your secretary’s details if you have one.

03

We register you with the insurers

Vhi, Laya Healthcare, Irish Life Health, Level Health and the other insurers you’ll need. Each one gives you a provider number.

04

We set up your hospitals

We set up billing with each private hospital you’ll work in.

05

You send us your billing

As you do the work, you or your secretary send us the details through your HAS account.

06

We send your first invoices

We bill the insurers and hospitals and follow up anything that comes back. You can see every invoice in your HAS account.

Each insurer has to register you before we can bill them. That usually takes 6 to 8 weeks, and they’ll ask for your CV and a letter of privileges from each hospital. Insurers don’t backdate, so we can’t hold back and bill later for sessions you do before your provider numbers come through. Talk to us as early as you can, so you don’t lose income.

Before you start

What to have ready.

You don’t need all of this to arrange a visit. We’ll go through it with you.

Medical Council registration

Your registration with the Irish Medical Council, and your number.

PPS number

Your personal public service number.

Your hospitals

The private hospital or hospitals you’ll work in.

Provider numbers

Any insurer provider numbers you already have. If you don’t have them yet, that’s what we register you for.

Your secretary

Their name, phone and email, if you have one, so we can work with them and set up their own login.

Your accountant

Who they are, so we can set up their login. If you need an accountant, we’ll introduce you to our partner accountants.

Commission

Once you’re set up, you pay nothing until you’re paid.

We take a commission on what we collect for you, and registering you with the insurers is covered by it. There’s no contract, no minimum and no hidden charges.

We won’t pretend every invoice gets paid, especially in your first year. But each one is followed up, and if one can’t be recovered, you’ll hear it from us before your accountant.

Starting soon? Talk to us early.

Leave your number and we’ll ring you back. Or we’ll come to you, wherever you work, and go through what’s needed.
