Hospital Accounting Services was set up in 1984 to look after the billing for consultants in private practice. We’ve been known as HAS ever since, and today we trade as HAS Medical Billing, which says what we do. We’re not accountants, but we work closely with yours.
In that time we’ve billed through full cover agreements with the insurers and the move to insurers paying consultants directly. Many of our clients have been with HAS for 20 years or more.

What we stand for
What you can count on from HAS.
The people
You have your own account manager, a real person who gets to know your accounts inside out. Ring the office and it’s answered within a few rings.
Every invoice followed through
We follow up every queried, rejected and underpaid invoice with the hospitals and insurers until it’s settled. Our team also goes into hospital finance departments to work through the listings in person.
On your side
We take it up with the hospitals and insurers on your behalf. We’re paid only when you’re paid, there’s no commission on money we didn’t bill, and there’s no contract.
Straight with you
If an invoice can’t be recovered, you’ll hear it from us before your accountant. If something goes wrong on our side, we’ll tell you and put it right.

We come to see you
Wherever you work. We’ll show you how HAS would work with your own numbers.

We set you up
We register you with Vhi, Laya Healthcare, Irish Life Health and Level Health, and set up billing with each hospital you work in. If you’re moving from another firm, you fill in our client information form and sign the letters of authority, and we use your existing provider numbers.

We send your invoices
To the insurers, the hospitals, the NTPF and self-pay patients. We handle inter-hospital billing too.

We follow every one through
The missing claim number, the claim form that needs signing, the length-of-stay letter, the insurer that paid less than it should. We stay on it until it’s settled.

You see where it all stands
Every invoice is in your HAS account, any time you want to look. Your account manager rings you when there’s something you need to know.

Insurers we bill
The major insurers (Vhi, Laya Healthcare, Irish Life Health and Level Health), and specialised and institutional insurers, including Garda Medical Aid (GMA), Prison Officers Medical Aid (POMA) and the Department of Defence. We also bill international and institutional claims, including Bupa International and the European Commission, among many others.
